I SAW IRON MAN!!! (and other stuff)

Sat May 3, 2008, 7:52 PM
Yes I did!! It's great! I promise I'll refrain from spoilers.

You know, this new binge of superhero movies suffer from one of two things: they have too much action or they have too much plot (Spiderman 3 was crippled by this). Iron Man delivers a rare balance of both, smoothly transitioning between the two, instead of the almost audible clunk that the transitions of other similar films make. Directors take note: this is how you make a superhero film.

Stark's suit is equipped with the traditional red and yellow armor, flying ability and energy blasts as well as other cool features. It's fun to watch the film, not only for the plot, but also to see how the suit's technology develops and evolves; starting from a massive, clunky "tin can" to the sleek sports car feel that the final design wields. Still, it's not long before the pristine armor gets dirtied up and dented and it's a lot of fun to watch Stark wreak havoc on an entire cell of terrorists and leave virtually undamaged.

That reminds me, there are a couple of differences between the film and the comics (there always are, but at least Jon Favreau did the fans a favor and kept the plot intact). In the comics, the major conflict is during the Vietnam War (about when Stan Lee made the first comic) and his first opponents were the North Vietnamese. In the movie, the major conflict is Iraq and Afghanistan, and the first opponents are the terrorists. In the comic, Stark is a drunk. In the movie, he isn't, yet.

This film is great. I place it up there with the first Batman movie, and I'm not kidding. It's just that good. Even if you aren't into these kinds of films, you'll still enjoy it. I was laughing during the comedic relief, but also during the incredibly kick ass fight scenes; even when I first heard the metallic distortion effect the mask had on Stark's voice. Go watch this movie. Now.

In other news, I'm sorry I haven't read any deviations or journals (and I'm paying for it. 25 messages and 71 deviations T_T). I've been really busy with school and other things. I really wish I had the time to just do art, but I can't get a moment (says the guy who has the time to watch a movie... >_>;). I'm going to look at everything as soon as possible. Stay tuned because I'm going to do a two video game review double feature soon of Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and Castlevania: Lament of Innocence! =D

I think it's spelled "Wall-E". I dunno much about it though, other than it's about an AI, I think.
